It will no doubt come as a great relief to many that despite rumours circulating of support ending November 2018* (or in direct response to them) Magento have officially announced support will continue until June 2020 for Magento 1:
“For Magento Commerce 1, we are providing software support through June 2020. Depending on your version, software support may include both quality fixes and security patches.
For Magento Open Source 1, we are providing software security patches through June 2020 to ensure those sites remain secure and compliant.
Please be aware that security maintenance applies only to Magento Open Source software and does not apply to third party extensions or customizations.
Maintenance of extensions, customization or other modifications to the Magento codebase, including compliance with security and privacy standards (PCI, SOC, ISO, etc.), are the express responsibility of the merchant.”
This is undoubtedly great news and a genuine relief to those happy with their current setup but it remains important to highlight the last sentence and remember to run regular scans to ensure you are fully compliant.
This also gives merchant lenty of time to plan a migration over to Magento 2. Which is a significant improvement over M1. Any of our development partners would be happy to discuss the transfer with you
*however unlikely the rumour.
